No. 9 justifies my social calendar for the past xx years.
austinkleon:

Need a gift for a grad? How about this 20x200 print and a copy of Steal Like An Artist?
tangentialism:

Back from California to find these on my desk. It’s a very @austinkleon morning.

This Is How Society Reproduces Itself

My 18-month-old:

  • recognizes the Disney Princesses (as an undifferentiated princess borg, but still)
  • chants “Elmo” until she descends into trance-like state
  • is learning to wait for the “white man” before crossing the street
  • called Tim Meadows “Obama” (not to his face! #smallvictories)
    • #inevitable triumph of kyriarchy over humanity

100 Best First Lines of Novels The titles range from Don Quixote to Middlesex

My favorite is from a book I have yet to read, The Bell Jar:

It was a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn’t know what I was doing in New York.

Though this is pretty great too, if you spend your time in any way like I spend mine. From David Lodge’s Changing Places:

High, high above the North Pole, on the first day of 1969, two professors of English Literature approached each other at a combined velocity of 1200 miles per hour.
